Allen Institute Modeling Workshop

Towards multipurpose models of cortical circuits. August 12-14, 2020

Starting with the work of Hodgkin, Huxley, Cole, Rall, Katz, Eccles and others in the 1950s and 1960s, we now have a reasonably good understanding of the principles by which single neurons operate and process information. For cortical circuits the understanding is much more limited, and models taking into account the biological complexity of real networks are needed. In this workshop, we will explore different directions of work in this field, on the spectrum from more conceptual models to more biologically detailed models of cortical circuits and tissue.
Join us virtually on August 12-14, 2020, to participate in this endeavor and discuss how we can move towards "multipurpose models" that incorporate the true biological complexity of cortical circuits and faithfully reproduce multiple observables in many different situations.
The three-day workshop will emphasize open and publicly accessible models and associated tools. Dissemination, reproducibility, and free sharing of models and modeling software will be discussed as an integral part of the endeavor to create better multipurpose models of cortical circuits. See an overview of the agenda and confirmed speakers below.
